Description: Oglebay Mansion

Locally, the 'Mansion', usually refers to this beautiful Greek Revival style edifice built in 1846 by Hanson Chapline as an eight-room farmhouse. The mansion went through seven different owners before being purchased by Earl Oglebay in 1900 and becoming his summer estate and the centerpiece of Waddington Farm. Today it serves as a museum housing several rooms of pioneer era furniture as well as a separate glass museum and gallery. I have been there many times for functions such as talks by prominent authors, conservation presentations by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, etc. It serves as a multi-function building today and is a great asset to the community.

    My great aunt Grace Conaway attended a graduation luncheon there when it was still the family home. When we'd go to visit our relatives we'd rent a cabin up at the park. I always felt like it was going home when we went there.
